On January 29, 2013 at 3:32 pm an armed subject entered a bus in Midland City Alabama demanding two hostages. The driver, Charles Poland, refused to give up the children and was shot and killed. The intruder kidnapped one child who was rescued six days later. The bus was on an extremely rural route and the only adult on the bus was shot and killed. Retired Superintendent Bynum will discuss the “Reunification” process in how the 21 children were safely reunited with their parents, as well as lessons learned in dealing with such a tragedy.
